    Lou Leading Lady & Hero in Heels: Holly Houston

    Attorney, writer, philanthropist, friend, doer, mover and shaker Holly Houston, is everywhere at any given moment. Simply trying to catch up with her is impossible and please note she does it all in fabulous heels.

    She has a captivating way of being able to get together the future power movers of Lou and connect people you’d never expect to meet. Reading over her interview, LBV couldn’t shorten it because we feared you all would miss out on the wit and charm of the “lawyer lady.”

    What was your first job?

    Embry’s women’s department. All classics all the time.

     

    Who inspires you professionally? 

    Entrepreneurs generally. I value innovation.

     

    If you had to describe yourself professionally in five words what would they be?

    I do not mess around.

    What does your company do?

    I represent clients in family law actions including divorce, custody, paternity, child support, dependency, domestic violence, adoptions, name changes, guardianship, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements and prepare documents for same sex couples and cohabitants. I do a bit of criminal defense and set up businesses for individuals and organizations.

     

    Do you have any philanthropic ties in the Lou community?

    Yes. Lots. I am a nonprofit cheerleader. I am a board member of Kentucky Harvest, Louisville Girls Leadership and a Junior League Sustainer. Lawyers Within Borders, my newest baby, a domestic humanitarian aid/disaster relief domestic organization, is set to launch this spring/summer.

     

    What would you say is your favorite thing about your career?

    Never know what will happen in any given day. Keeps me on my toes and holds my interest.

     

    Where do you see yourself in five years?

    Advocating in and out of the US for something I believe in, if I play my cards right.

     

    Do you belong to any professional organizations?

    I am the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Greater Louisville Outstanding Women, a business strategy and referral group for business women and women who shine in the community. I am a member of the local state and national bar associations.  I am a Leadership Louisville Connector.

     

    What is the best business advice you’ve ever heard or given?

    Don’t let the turkeys get you down.

     

    What do you like to do in your spare time?

    Host gatherings of all shapes and sizes and connect dots between people and organizations.

     

    If money was not an object, what would you be doing?

    Traveling around the country raising money for Lawyers Within Border and girls’ initiatives.
